Deadline Claims that Zoe Aggeliki is the Frontrunner for Playing Johanna Mason in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire"

If you could still remember, Zoe Aggeliki's name was mixed into the Johanna Mason casting rumor several days ago along with Mia Wasikowska by The Playlist. Then after that, EW has reported that Mia Wasikowska is not in the running to play the District 7 victor as confirmed by the Aussie actress' reps. EW has also added that Jena Malone is a front runner to play Johanna but Deadline also reported that Zoe Aggeliki is now in negotiations with Lionsgate for the role. According to Deadline:

However, sources say model-actress Aggeliki is the one in the most serious talks after both auditioned for director Francis Lawrence.
Zoe Aggeliki

Anyway, the fandom is really going crazy over this casting rumors not just for Johanna, Finnick and other characters. I don't know why the people from Lionsgate are very tight when releasing official announcements for the casts. I mean the sequel will be filmed soon so I think it might be a great way to keep the fandom alive if they announce any casting news soon.

Mexican Fan Paralyzed After a Hunger Games Mock in Pravo Canyon, Support Flows

In case you haven't heard, Tere Parra, was paralyzed after she fell from a tree during a mock Hunger Games in Pravo Canyon in Utah when visiting her friend in June this year. Tere Parra was an experienced tree climber and even if she has lots of experience when it comes to this kind of thing, she was never excluded to accidents like this and so are we. We are very saddened on what had happened and we would like to remind everybody to be careful when doing cosplays or short films either related to the Hunger Games or not.

Meanwhile, lots of people are already giving their support for Tere. According to Deseret News:

PROVO  — The donations are coming in at a steady pace for Tere Parra, the young Mexican woman paralyzed in early June when she fell from a tree while playing a mock version of Hunger Games.
So far, about $11,000  has been raised to help with Parra's medical expenses, as she continues treatment for her broken back and shattered face. Both injuries required hours of surgery and weeks of hospitalization in a Provo hospital's intensive care unit.

Parra was in Utah visiting her sister, Eva Daniels, when the accident happened in Provo Canyon. With such pain and loss of mobility, friends and family say they'd understand if Parra, 25, was depressed, bitter or even angry at her situation.

Instead, the woman has been an inspiration to those around her and to strangers alike because of her strength, and her grace.
"There's some people who have gone to visit her in the hospital, people who have the same condition she has now," said her brother-in-law Spencer Daniels.

Earlier this week, she was moved to another area of the hospital to begin physical therapy and learn how to maneuver through life without the use of her legs.

Daniels said she has been in good spirits, and touched by people who want to help.
Cory Lovelace, a friend who is spearheading fundraising efforts, said he continues to get about 10 calls a day from throughout the United States — California, Tennessee, Indiana and Florida.

A woman from Brazil emailed, wanting to know how she could help.
In Glendale, Ariz., Judy McKinstry wrote that when she heard of what had happened to the woman, recently returned from an LDS mission in California, it touched her heart.

"But when I read of her positive attitude in the midst of what could be a great despair, it touches me even more," McKinstry said. "She is a remarkable person and I admire her courage."
Terre's story was picked up by the Daily Mail in the United Kingdom and featured in its online edition. Since then, Lovelace said the offerings of support have been even more steady.
He said he had a hunch that the woman's story would capture hearts, so he is not overly surprised at the extent of the reaction.

"I always had high expectations."

McKinstry said she prays for the woman she's not met but honors from far away.
"Young people today go from low extremes to high ones," she said. "They are either really broken or valiant servants like Tere."

Fundraisers

Friends have organized a variety of fundraisers to help with Tere Parra's medical costs. She does not have insurance. A 5K race will be held at 8 a.m. July 14 at Lakeridge Junior High School in Orem. Cost is $20. A barbecue afterward is at 11 a.m. and is $10.

On July 13, a dance at The Center in Provo costs $5. It is from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. For more information, call Cory Lovelace, 801-874-7044 or email btereslegs@gmail.com

A donation page has been set up to garner support for the woman, with a goal of raising $200,000 to help offset medical costs. As of midday Tuesday, 38 donors had raised $2,215.

Elizabeth Banks Talks About Catching Fire Casting, Being Effie, and Francis Lawrence

Moviefone recently caught up with Elizabeth Banks when she is in the middle of promoting her latest flick "People Like Us." She talked about Francis Lawrence and Gary Ross, Catching Fire Casting and being Effie. The following is an excerpt of her interview:

There was a tizzy over who would direct the second movie of the Hunger Games trilogy, “Catching Fire.” Are you upset that Gary Ross isn’t returning as the director?

No! I mean, Gary is on to do things that he’s really interested in. I think it was a mutually agreed-upon decision by all involved, and, so, great. There are no tears for Gary.
So are you looking forward to working with Francis Lawrence?

Yes, I am. I don’t want to be flippant about what I just said about Gary. He made a great movie, he made a lot of money, he’s moving on — I think it’s fine for everybody. He’s good, and now we’ll get fresh eyes on the next one, and that’ll be really exciting. And it’s always exciting for actors to create new relationships with new directors. Gary and I made two movies together and I would do anything with him, but now I’m excited to get to know Francis.
Some major new characters are introduced in “Catching Fire”: former tributes Johanna and Finnick. Casting rumors are flying. Is there anyone in particular that you’re lobbying for?

I’m gonna trust the process, because so far the process has been amazing and I think it’s yielded an incredible cast. The movie is so well-cast, and I’ll even throw myself into that mix. There’ll be a similar process and we’re gonna get a great Finnick and a great Johanna. And a Plutarch! Don’t forget! There’s so many great characters coming up.

Your Effie was great. Which character was more of a challenge for you, Laura Bush in “W.” or Effie?

You know, Effie is a much darker character. Laura Bush actually was fairly easy in that she was just a great wife. There was no political context for her. The transformation was pretty easy. I actually feel like if I had that hair, I would look like her in a way. She’s a nice looking lady.
So Effie, for sure, was more difficult. Effie walks a very fine line and I wanted her to not just be comic relief, I wanted her to have a lot of weight and to sort of carry the weight of the Capitol around with her, like the oppression of the Capitol and for everyone to understand that she is a woman living in fear.
Effie was amazing. It was amazing to be embraced by so many fans, and to have Suzanne Collins tell me that she thought I did a good job. That was a big highlight for me.

Brutus Casting Rumors: Victor Gojcaj and Kevin Durand

Shock Ya has claimed that a source has emailed them that Victor Gojcaj is in negotiations to play Brutus in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." They also mentioned that Gojcaj is in competition with Kevin Durand (I Am Number Four) and former wrestler Kevin Nash for the role.

A little about Brutus:

Brutus was the male tribute from District 2 in the 75th Hunger Games. He was also the victor of a previous Games, most likely the 36th to 39th Hunger Games.

So what do you think? You know what I kinda feel that lots of entertainment tabloids have been putting a lot of craze on the Catching Fire casts. I really hope all of these rumors will end up and make everyone happy.

Johanna Mason Casting Rumor: Jena Malone is Rumored to Play the Coveted Role

According to EW, Jena Malone (Sucker Punch and Saved!) is rumored to play Johanna Mason in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."

The character is described in author Suzanne Collins’ bestseller as possessing “a wicked ability to murder,” winning her Hunger Games by pretending to be weak and then picking off the other tributes. One open question about the character is whether director Francis Lawrence will keep Johanna’s introduction from the book, in which she first meets heroine Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) naked — save for her green slippers.

Malone began her acting career at 12 years old in the acclaimed Showtime movie Bastard out of Carolina and as a young Jodie Foster in the sci-fi drama Contact. She most recently appeared in History’s ratings-record-breaking miniseries Hatfields & McCoys.

Catching Fire Casting Rumor: Rapper Romeo Miller is in the Talks to Play in Catching Fire

Read this article from MTV News:

Romeo Miller (formerly known as Lil' Romeo) has racked up an impressive number of credits in the decade or so that he's been acting. As the 22-year-old makes moves in his career as an adult actor, Romeo has his eyes set on one franchise in particular.
One of Miller's ideal projects would be a trip to Panem for "The Hunger Games," he told MTV News during a recent interview for "Madea's Witness Protection." In fact, he's already met with Lionsgate to discuss the possibility.

Although he got his start as the rap star son of Master P, Miller has been acting for years now. "A lot of people don't know I've been doing this for 10 years now," he said. "I felt that all of that was practice, leading up to the time now."

But for his next roles, Miller has his sights set on an acting career similar to Will Smith. "I want to be the next big action hero or I want to do a lot of romantic type movies, romantic comedies, a little bit of everything, but definitely the next action hero," Miller said, and then added, "You can see me in 'The Hunger Games' or something like that. Just throwing that out there."

Though he admitted to not being very familiar with Suzanne Collins' books, Miller confirmed that there has been some discussion about possibly joining "Catching Fire," which is currently casting.

"I actually just met with Lionsgate about that, so you may be seeing me in one of the 'Hunger Games.' That's all I'm saying," Miller said. "Not a particular role, we just had a meeting, seeing if it was something I was interested in. I can't really talk too much, or they'll kill me. You know how 'The Hunger Games' is."

Catching Fire Casting Rumors: Who's In, Who's Out?

I decided to publish this post to create a compilation of various Catching Fire casting rumors. We all know that Lionsgate has been very tight about releasing any official statement regarding the casting and I have decided to make this so that we will be able to track down those who have potential to get cast and who will not. In the end, the people who are involved in the rumors will have part in the Hunger Games history. The rumors were usually taken from various entertainment portal sites.

Finnick Odair

Description: Finnick Odair was a male victor from District 4. He was known for being the victor of the 65th Hunger Games and a survivor of the 3rd Quarter Quell, also known as the 75th Hunger Games.

Katniss at first views Finnick as extremely flirtatious and using a "seductive purr" when he spoke. She is unable to read his motives when they are in the arena together, but believes that she would be better off killing him sooner rather than later, until he revives Peeta.

Physically, he is described as being extremely handsome. He is tall, muscular, and athletic, with tan skin, bronze-colored hair, and "incredible" sea green eyes, making him very popular with people in the Capitol.

Katniss says that Finnick never needed to do anything for sponsors, and that no other tribute could overcome his "natural beauty".

Rumored Actors:

Garrett Hedlund (E!)
Armie Hammer (E!)
Taylor Kitsch (E!) - (L.A. Times confirmed he won't play the role)
Sam Claflin (Lainey Gossip) (Zap2it claims that the role was offered to him) (Deadline adds that he is getting closer to play Finnick) (officially cast as Finnick on August 22, 2012)
Colton Haynes (Brian Tutt) (He confirmed that he auditioned for the role at the 2012 Comic Con)
Lucas Till (Zap2it)
Trevor Donovan (Zap2it) (Trevor Donovan confirmed on his Facebook page that he won't play the role)
Alan Ritchson (Zap2it) Officially cast as Gloss, a victor/tribute from District 1
Jesse Williams (E!) (He confirmed that he won't play Finnick)
Hunter Parrish (The Daily Beast/MTV)
Grant Gustin (auditioned for Finnick ET Canada)
Ben Walker (Deadline)
Boyd Holbrook (Deadline)
Tyler Hoechlin (Deadline)

actors who are rumored to play Finnick Odair in Catching Fire

Grant Gustin
Johanna Mason

Description: Johanna Mason is the female tribute from District 7 in an earlier and unspecified Hunger Games, most likely the 71st Hunger Games and again in the third Quarter Quell. It is said that she was the victor of the Hunger Games a few years earlier. She was one of the younger tributes in this Quarter Quell. She is the last living female victor of District 7, whose principal industry is lumber.

Johanna is described as having wide-set brown eyes and spiky brown/black hair. In Mockingjay, she returns from the Capitol with a shaved head after being tortured by them but eventually grows pieces of her hair back.

Rumored Actress(es):

Mia Wasikowska (The Playlist) (EW confirmed that she won't play the role)
Zoe Aggeliki (The Playlist) - (Deadline reported that she is a frontrunner to the role)
Catalina Sandino Moreno (Lainey Gossip)
Naya Rivera (announces her interest for the role to Radar Online)
Kristen Bell (she announces her interest for the role to Hufftington Post)

Annie is described as a lovely young woman with dark flowing hair and dark green eyes. Katniss describes her as 'lovely if somewhat bedraggled' in Mockingjay. She is thought to be around 20 years old, as mentioned when Mags volunteered to take her place for the second quarter quell. She is also described as looking a little crazy.

Rumored Actress(es): ---

Beetee

Description: Beetee is the male tribute from District 3 in the 75th Hunger Games, as well as in a previous Games. Beetee is an expert with electronics and wiring. He was one of the few people to survive the 75th Hunger Games.

Rumored Actor(s): ---

Tony Shalhoub (Variety)

Wiress

Description: Wiress was a female tribute from District 3. She competed in and won a previous, unspecified Hunger Games, possibly the 46 to the 49th, and then participated again in the 75th Games. In the second set of Games, she was at first rejected by many to be an ally, except for Katniss Everdeen who wanted her as one.

In Catching Fire, Wiress and Beetee are both described as having ashen skin and black hair.

Wiress was described to be shy by Katniss, who mentions that in the training room, she seldom completed her sentences, and Beetee had to finish them for her. When she, along with Johanna and Beetee, team up with Finnick, Katniss, and Peeta, she could only recite comments and songs about clocks - referring to the clock shaped arena. Alan Ritchson was officially cast as Gloss

Johanna Mason Casting Rumors: Mia Wasikowska & Zoe Aggeliki are Rumored to Play Johanna

So much for the Finnick Odair casting rumor, let's head on to the Johanna Mason at the moment.  According to Indie Wire's The Playlist, Mia Wasikowska and Zoe Aggeliki were in the mix to play the axe-wielding victor from District 7 named Johanna Mason. If you have read the books, Johanna has a major role in the second and third book. Katniss said that Johanna is like a big sister who doesn't like you. She's very rude, fearless and seems to contradict Katniss a lot. But despite the toughness, Johanna lives a lonely life back in her district since she got no family. Probably, they've been killed after Johanna won in the Games just like Haymitch.

We all know Mia Wasikowska played Alice in Alice in Wonderland and she's Josh Hutcherson's big sister in "The Kids Are Alright." She also played the titular role in Jane Eyre.

Mia Wasikowska

On the other hand, Zoe Aggeliki will be seen with Ryan Reynolds in "R.I.P.D." She will also play the role of Silena Beauregard in "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters."

Zoe Aggeliki
 According to The Playlist:

Francis Lawrence is keen on finding the right actress to fit the part, and is looking at both big names and lesser known talents. Both actresses have been in discussions for the part, and we hear that Aggeliki could sign in the coming days, but nothing is certain just yet.

The Hunger Games' Caesar Flickerman Stanley Tucci Talk About the Movie and Its Success

Stanley Tucci, the man who played interview host Caesar Flickerman, has finally break his silence on the success of the movie and how it affected his life. He was also able to give us some tip that he will start shooting "Catching Fire" by October.

Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman
Here's an excerpt from Wall Street Journal's SpeakEasy on the interview with Stanley Tucci.
The Wall Street Journal: What kind of response have you gotten since “Hunger Games” came out? Do you have lots of new young fans?

Stanley Tucci: Without question…. It’s a newer demographic only because the kids who are seeing it now, a lot of them hadn’t seen “The Devil Wears Prada” because they were too young. It’s a similar age but different people. I never anticipate it would be like that. It was my fiancee who said, “you should do this.” I said, “Really?” She said, “Stanley, these books are so successful and they are really good.”

What do “Hunger Games” fans say to you?

My kids play soccer, and you see that the kids on the other team are sort of like, “What’s that guy doing here? Why is he here?” I think they think that you don’t do all the normal stuff. It’s really great. I’m very proud to be in the movie. It was a great experience. It was really one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.

Why?

I liked the story a lot. I liked what it has to say for socio-political reasons. I like the fact that the lead character is this incredible, strong young woman. I love Gary Ross.

What are your thoughts on the “Hunger Games” getting a new director, Francis Lawrence?

I’m sad that Gary is not doing it. But I hear this fella is really great. Hopefully Gary wil come back and do another one. I [start shooting] the next Hunger Games in October some time.

The Hunger Games Receives Positive Reviews in China Despite the Current Situations in the Country

We are already surprised that Lionsgate was able to show "The Hunger Games" in China. Now, what's more surprising is that the movie was able to receive positive reviews from Chinese reviewers. Apart from that, Yahoo said that "The Hunger Games" was able to gain 66.1 million yuan (8.2 million euros) in the box office for its first week. The Epoch Times recently collected various reviews from the movie.

Hoping to continue its record-setting box office pace, The Hunger Games opened in China this week. The film, which combines themes from the Minotaur myth, gladiatorial combat and the devastation of war-torn Iraq, evoked strong responses from Chinese social media-goers, some of whom saw it as a valid depiction of the current Chinese political situation.

In the film, described as “the most moving and thoughtful of recent films” by a prominent Chinese television personality who highly recommended it, teenagers are forced to fight to the death as “tribute” to a failed rebellion against the “Capitol” many years before.

Opening a week after the sensitive date of “June 4,” the film includes the line “I wish I could show that they don’t own me.”

This led one online commentator going by the moniker “spider,” to remark, “How did that pass the government’s censors?”

Having to struggle against a bloody and treacherous web of intrigue is similar to our own country, so I feel that this was no mere teen flick.

— user light blue jade

A flood of comments appeared on Chinese movie review websites.

Several praised the film and sympathized with the plight of the teens: “It has been a long time since I last cried at a movie. When Katniss shows the hand sign of farewell to the people of District 12, I took it as the poor people’s cry for injustice and unfair treatment. It was shocking to see.”

A more somber tone was taken by “colin:” “Too bad that the teens did not die, sparking a revolt against the dictatorship. Perhaps that’s also a regret existing in reality.”

According to “light blue jade:” “Having to struggle against a bloody and treacherous web of intrigue is similar to our own country, so I feel that this was no mere teen flick.”

The film makes clear the contrast between the well-off residents of the “Capitol” and the subsistence standard in the “Districts.”

Icy leaves,” in Guangdong, remarking on this, wrote: “Go see it and afterwards you’ll know that everything is controlled by politics, just like society today where those with the bucks get the respect!”

Conservative media in America viewed the film as indicating the horrors of big government that can oppress people to the point that they cannot produce and be productive.

This sentiment was echoed by “A Fan of Garfield” in Guangdong: “A searing critique of today’s cruel reality.”
