New Rue and Glimmer Stills from Teen Vogue Magazine

Hunger Games cast featured in Teen Vogue (March 2012 issue):

On the intense training
Amandla Stenberg: “They would bench-press me as a workout … I was one of their favorite weights!”
On auditioning for the movie
Isabelle Fuhrman: “I read the series thirteen times! … I said to my mom, ‘[Auditioning] is like The Hunger Games. I’m going to win and be in this movie.”
On choosing to play another character in the movie

Leven Rambin chooses Peeta: “It’s a cool duplicity. He has to maintain a front with careers and not offend Katniss. And also be this confident showman.”

Isabelle chooses Haymitch: “It’d be a challenge. He’s hiding a lot more than he lets on.”

Amandla chooses Clove: “I liked Rue and Foxface, but after shooting and seeing Isabelle in action, I think Clove’s character is really cool … even though she’s totally menacing.”

Seventeen's Interview With Hunger Games Movie Stylist Linda Flowers

Here is Seventeen's interview with Linda Flowers, the head hairstylist of the Hunger Games movie. Read and learn her techniques in creating Katniss' hairstyle with her "Girl on Fire" costume.

Seventeen: What was your inspiration for the hairstyles you came up with for the characters in the movie?

Linda Flowers: I collaborated a lot with Judianna Makovsky, our costume designer. I looked at the clothes and they are cut very classically and are very beautifully tailored. I knew the hair needed to have harmony with that. I used very contemporary shapes and deep finger waves from the 30s and 40s and looser ones from the 50s with the bright colors. Then, I incorporated weird fuzzy textures into these classic styles. I mixed classic hairstyles and shapes with contemporary colors and textures. Everybody loved it!

17: Were any of the actresses super excited about her hair?

LF: Elizabeth Banks, who plays Effie! Her hair was a challenge because the books describe her hair as having a lot of colors, like orange and aqua. I wanted to make sure it looked beautiful and couture, not like a Halloween party. I wanted it to look really beautiful. It has to look right on screen or else we lose people in believing that this is a really sophisticated and advanced culture of people.

17: I think the image that has already become an iconic Hunger Games photo is Katniss with the side braid. Can you share your tips on achieving that style?

LF: Jennifer Lawrence's style had to be a really functioning hairstyle for her character. She was an archer who hunted amd protected herself with a bow and arrow. Her hair needed to be contained so when she reached back and pulled out an arrow, her hair wouldn't be getting in the way. I styled her hair by starting from the left of the ear and did a reverse French braid, where the braid is on top instead of the bottom. Then, I just looped it all the way around, cupping her nape and coming around to the right. It really hugs her head as it comes down toward the nape, giving her maximum control and keeping it out of the way of her bow and arrows.

17: Jennifer had to run around a lot during filming. What products did you use to keep the braid in place?

LF: The styling tool that everybody used that became very popular on set was the Top Styler made by InStyler. It's a new tool that just launched. And of course, hairspray! But more than anything, the Top Styler was important because it was able to make all those different textures that you usually need a lot of different hair tools for. When I was doing Jennifer Lawrence's hair, I would use the Top Styler to give her hair texture before I braided it. So it was more the styling tools than products. Products help, but they don't give you the texture and movement you need.

17: Can you give any hints as to how you styled Jennifer Lawrence's hair for the first time we see Katniss as "the girl on fire" in the parade?

LF: I can! During the chariot ride, I made a helmut out of hair. It looks like a headpiece, almost Gladiator-like. The main headdress lookes like a helmut out of different types of braids. I used basket weaving, plaiting, French braids, everything. There were 10 different braids in there and I made this headdress out of braids.

17: Were any of the guys, like Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson particuarly picky about their hair?

LF: Stanley Tucci, who plays Ceaser Flickerman, had a blue wig, just like in the book. We put a lot of wigs on guys. I was using anywhere between 400 and 450 wigs and hair extensions on set. Almost everybody had something! You would think that the guys would be easy, but they weren't in the Capitol. Josh
Hutcherson's hair had to be colored blonde, which is a bleaching process and Liam's hair had to go darker.

17: What wad the vibe like on set?

LF: Oh, it was fun! Everyone worked so hard and such long hours, so there's always fatigue. But everyone on the movie was really nice and really into The Hunger Games. We definitely fed off each other's energy!

Lovely Young Ladies of Hunger Games - Behind the Scenes for their Seventeen Photoshoot

Here are two footage featuring the lovely young ladies of Hunger Games Willow Shields (Prim), Amandla Stenberg (Rue), Isabelle Fuhrman (Clove), Jacque Emerson (Foxface), and Leven Ramblin (Glimmer). Watch and learn how to they prepare for their roles as well as their fashion style!

We hung out at the studio all day with the girls, who had a blast trying on different looks and rocking out to Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Adele.

“Some of these girls are like my sisters,” Jacqueline said. “So it was so great to be able to have dance parties and just kind of dance around.”

… ”I’m definitely a shoe person,” Isabelle said. “I wear high heels every day, I’m not even kidding.”

“The audition process was really cool,” she told us. “I was so excited because I’d read the books and I was dying to audition. Luckily I was able to channel all that nervous excited energy into this ferocious Glimmer energy. That worked in my favor I think.”
Leven also talks about the training she had to go through for the role.
“I just had some pretty hard core fights, like combat fights and if your wrist slips one inch too far you’re going to get punched in the face,” she said. “I was actually thrown on accident by a tackle and went pretty far. And it was kind of scary.”

Jennifer Lawrence for Another OSCAR Nomination for her Role as Katniss, Catching Fire Might Be Shot in Hawaii

Read this article from EW. It talks about the rapport between director Gary Ross and Jennifer Lawrence in making the Hunger Games movie and find out why Ross thinks that Jen should have an Oscar nomination for her role. Plus, Jen also shares some bits of information about the upcoming sequel of the franchise, Catching Fire.

With less than two months to go before the March 23 premiere of The Hunger Games, the first installment of Suzanne Collins’ breathlessly addicting  trilogy, director Gary Ross is already predicting the possibility of another nomination for his 21-year-old star Jennifer Lawrence come next year’s Oscars. “The range in this performance, the emotional terrain that she investigates, the demands of what this role are,” he raves of Lawrence’s portrayal of series heroine Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old forced alongside other children into a televised fight-to-the-death. “It’s such an intensely physical role and an emotional one. She carries the entire movie. To be able to do that at that age is so kind of incredible that I was in a little bit of awe. Do I think she should be nominated? Absolutely.”

Ross and Lawrence bonded hard on the 83-day shoot, weathering the sweltering North Carolina heat and afternoon storms together. “We were all a family,” says Lawrence. “Everything that I love about the movie, and everything that got me to say yes to this movie, was Gary.” On set, however, she says Ross liked to float the possibility of him leaving everyone in the hands of a new director. “He wanted me to worry about it, because he enjoys my anxiety,” she says with a laugh. “That was a huge, huge thing that he used to lure over my head. Like a bastard!” Lawrence says that because of the tremendous rapport enjoyed by the cast and crew, she always assumed Ross would sign on again for Catching Fire, but it was still a hand-wringer. “I still don’t know for sure,” she says. “Is he definitely doing it?” she asks EW. Indeed!

Ross shared with EW his love for the meaty material that soon awaits them. SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! “I love the title Catching Fire because from the moment Katniss was willing to eat the berries,” he says, “the moment she was willing to give her life for something larger than herself, she set off a chain reaction that was at once bigger than her and also because of her. That’s a very exciting movie to make because you’re seeing the emergence of a leader. It’s the birth of a revolution so it has context that’s larger than just the Games themselves.”

There’s a risk when signing onto a franchise, especially one as beloved and anticipated as The Hunger Games, that the weight of an iconic role will leave the star herself feeling crushed. Lawrence herself sounds surprised herself by how ready she is to shoulder Katniss’ burdens once more. “Signing onto the movies I was like, ‘Well, I’ll probably love the first one and then I’ll just want to get the rest of them out of the way,’” she says. “But I can’t wait to start training. As soon as they were like ‘We need to start training in July,’ I was like ‘Woohoo!’ I can’t wait to get back.” She pauses to laugh. “Though I don’t know if that’s because I think we might shoot in Hawaii.” The tropical location would make sense, as much of Catching Fire‘s pivotal action takes place on a Capitol-constructed beach. Just yet another reason for Lawrence to look forward to the shoot.

Safe and Sound Fan Made Video Featuring Rue and Katniss of the Hunger Games

Here is a fan made video I made about Rue and Katniss' team-up during the 74th Hunger Games. This is one of the most important points of the story and one of my favorites as well. I was really sad when Rue died and I think Taylor Swift's Safe and Sound fits it all.

Basically, I grab some fan art from Deviantart.com and lots of artists in that site have different interpretation of the scene and they are really awesome. I kind of combine stills from the movie and the drawings I found at deviantArt. So, here you go, I hope you like it. Don't forget to drop your comments if you've got something to tell.

Hunger Games Movie Fan Art -- Katniss in the Reaping

Enjoy this Hunger Games movie fan art. It features Katniss during the Reaping with the tagline: "the day my life changed."

Hunger Games Cast in Empire Magazine

Here are a couple of stills from the upcoming Hunger Games film. These were taken from the iPad version of the Empire Magazine from UK.

The first still features Effie (busy with her make up retouch thing) with Haymitch and Peeta on the background. Based from this still, I think this might have been taken from the Tribute train heading to the Capitol. Haymitch is having a small chat with Peeta and I think he's talking about Effie. Bad Haymitch. Oh and there's an inset of President Snow.

The next still is from the Girl on Fire, Katniss Everdeen. Actually, she's not in fire with this one. She's spotted on 12's electric fence with her hunting attire on. Katniss is wearing her father's jacket and ready to enter the meadow. Her outfit is a manifestation of District 12's poverty as opposed to the rich and glamour of the Capitol. And something bothers me about the belt. LOL
