Empire Magazine Features The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Lead actress Jennifer Lawrence and director Francis Lawrence were featured in the November 2013 issue of Empire Magazine. Read the excerpt from their interview below:

Jennifer on fame:

It’s hard to say you identify with someone who’s facing life and death and war,” she shared. “It’s not like, ‘Oh my God that’s, like, totally how I feel’.

“But there is the connection in that she doesn’t feel like just part of the town anymore. Now everyone treats her as a celebrity… Whereas she still feels like she’s part of them.”

“I get that a lot,” she admitted. “I’ll go to get a coffee where I always get coffee and all of a sudden there’s this weird mood, and I’m like, ‘Come on, I still get coffee here, just say hello’.”

Director Francis on the changes he made for Catching Fire

“I thought there was a real opportunity to open up the world … I didn’t get enough of a sense of place in the first movie. I thought we could grow visually because we were seeing more of the Districts, the Capitol and the whole arena.”

Jennifer on bringing on Francis

“I was consulted about who the new director would be, yes … but I’m not delusional. I’m sure that if I’d said I absolutely hated Francis they’d have hired him anyway… Fortunately I think Francis is the smartest decision any studio has ever made.”

Francis on the cast

“This cast all work incredibly hard … but if you had a scene with Jennifer, Josh and Woody Harrelson then it was pretty much a disaster. They would not keep a straight face.”

Jennifer on not getting bored playing Katniss

“I still love playing Katniss and am really looking forward to being her again. There’s honestly no part of it that I’m bored with…” she pauses for a second and then adds, mock-furiously, “Actually that’s not true. I am so bored with her braid. I keep asking, ‘Cant I just wear my hair differently?’ But they keep saying no.”

How to Dress Like Katniss, Peeta, and Other Tributes in Catching Fire Movie

Yep! Halloween is already near and it's time to hit the closet and dress up like Katniss and other tributes just like what we see in the movie adaptation of Catching Fire. The movie isn't out yet but we already have an idea on how these tributes look like in the training center and in the arena. Of course, we've seen them in the trailer and from the stills released on different entertainment medium like magazines and on the movie's official social media accounts. Last year, NECA had released replicas of the costumes and props used in The Hunger Games. However, there are not yet news if they are going to do the same for Catching Fire. Anyway, here are some tips on how to dress like Katniss and the rest of the Catching Fire characters.

The National to Add the Song Lean on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Soundtrack

Stereogum has reported that The National will add up the song "Lean" in the upcoming soundtrack of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The song was originally titled "Dying is Easy." Lean will be added on the recently released song by Coldplay entitled "Atlas," which you could listen here.

According to the artist:

The song almost didn’t make it because it was too dark for The Hunger Games soundtrack, which I thought was sort of funny because it’s about killing kids. I don’t know how a song can be darker than that. So we had to change the name of the song; I actually like the name ‘Lean.’… You know, I get it. It was a really fun project… It was a cool change from how we normally work on things, to write something for something else. It was kind of a pressure release thing, and it was fun.”

Megan Hayes (District 6 Victor/Morphling Girl) Talks About Her Training in Catching Fire

In an interview with Dread Central, actress Megan Hayes, talks about her strict diet in preparation for her role in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as the victor of District 6, a.k.a. The Morphling Girl.

DC: Can you talk about your experience on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and explain who the Morphlings are for those who don’t know?

MH: I don’t know how much I can say. I am the tribute from District Six. The morphlings are addicted to a drug called morphling - a pain killer that’s kind of a morphine-esque kind of drug. My experience on Hunger Games couldn’t have been better. I was embraced by everyone and had a fantastic experience. It was a really fun role to play; the director [Francis Lawrence] was incredibly kind but also incredibly smart and knew exactly what he wanted. It was a really ideal experience overall.

DC: How much better was craft services on The Hunger Games then on +1?

MH: Lemme tell ya’ about craft services on The Hunger Games. I really couldn’t partake of it that much because I was on a very strict diet where I had to lose and get to a very malnourished-looking weight. So, it looked great but I basically ate a lot of almonds and a lot of fruits and veggies and that was about it.

DC: That’s kind of an interesting connection between your character in Hunger Games and then in +1 where you’re both addicts.

MH: I know! Isn’t that great? I’m not gonna lie, fingers crossed, I hope this is my new niche.

Plutarch Heavensbee at the Capitol Couture Spotlight - New Still

In the recent entry of Capitol Couture, Third Quarter Quell (75th Hunger Games) head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee (to be portrayed by Philip Seymour Hoffman) has was able to share his ideas on the upcoming Games. Also, you get to see him and his fellow gamemakers in a new still.

A snippet from his profile at the Capitol Couture:

“As an artist, the games will provide me with almost unlimited creative freedom,” says Heavensbee, who is always circumspect about the details. “Allowing for the event itself to happen in real time adds a layer of constant excitement and anticipation. Add the human variable of the tributes themselves, and no one, not even I, can predict what will happen next.”
