Katniss on Total Film's March 2012 Issue

Jennifer Lawrence, who will play the female lead Katniss Everdeen of the upcoming Hunger Games movie, hits the cover of the March 2012 issue of Total Film magazine. Here is an excerpt of the interview.

Jennifer Lawrence is the Total Film cover star this month, just as she gears up to claim global superstardom with the release of The Hunger Games.

We caught up with the 21-year-old to chat about the Games, and she explained how she became involved with the movie adaptation:
“My mom has a terrible habit of reading books, telling me to read them and then me doing the movie – she did the same with Winter’s Bone.”

On the reluctance of leading such a potentially blockbusting franchise, Lawrence told us, “I would love to be Katniss for years… it was more the fear of how my own life could change.” Thankfully her mother intervened again…
“I always got asked why I did indies, not studio films, and I said it was about the script, it’s not about how big it is, and she was like, ‘This is a script you love, a character you love, and you’re about to turn it down because of the size of it? You’re a hypocrite!’”

And just how gory is The Hunger Games (which has narrative similarities to Battle Royale and The Running Man) actually going to be?
Lawrence confirmed: “There’s blood, death, stabbing, spears and arrows going into people, but you can have the impact of violence without being gory.”

The Hunger Games opens on 23 March 2012.
