Jena Malone Excited to Play Johanna Mason

Jena Malone, who was officially cast as Johanna Mason this week, has caught up with E! during the Dannijo & Tucker Tea dinner party in Beverly Hills, CA. She said:

For Catching Fire:
"I'm super excited."
When asked if she's met with director Francis Lawrence.

"We're getting there."

As for preparing for her role, she said:

"One step at a time."

Johanna is a former Hunger Games winner who becomes a rival to Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence).

One thing Malone doesn't need to do is read the Hunger Games novels—she's already done that.
"I read the whole series over a weekend when I had a wisdom tooth out," she said. "I was in bed looking for something to read and my little sister recommended it like a year and a half ago, so she was like, 'You have to read it! You have to read it!' And so I'm glad I finally did and I loved it."

Video: Elizabeth Banks Talks Effie, the Reaping, and more Catching Fire Stuff

Elizabeth Banks, the actress who played and will continue playing Effie Trinket in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," recently hosted a video chat for fans wherein she talks more about her acting life. Of course, the spotlight goes for Catching Fire. You can visit the actress' official blog and see the video there. I can't embed the video because it doesn't have any sharing capabilities like Youtube or any other video hosting sites have.

Woody Harrelson Talks about Haymith and the Hunger Games

Woody Harrelson, who plays Katniss and Peeta's mentor in the Hunger Games, talked about his role and filming the movie when promoting Bullet For Adol, in which he was the playwright and the director.

Source: Broadway

Congratulations on your off-Broadway debut as a playwright and director! How does it feel?

It feels really exciting! To present Bullet For Adolf to New York City has long been a dream of Frankie Hyman and mine. To finally be here, oh my God, it’s equal parts excitement and terror.

Bullet For Adolf is based on the summer you met Frankie Hyman. That title begs to be talked about.

It’s hard to tell you too much. Bullet involves the theft of a World War II artifact, and it was based on a real story. In some ways it’s a whodunit. All of the relationships are as they were. There’s a lot in it that is autobiographical, but we didn’t really have a plot. We had to overlay a fictional plot onto this play. People seem to require it [laughs].

One of the most talked about franchises right now has to be The Hunger Games. Tell us about playing Haymitch Abernathy.

That was a pretty cool experience. [Director] Francis Lawrence, who is doing [the second film] Catching Fire, was over at the apartment and I told him this true story: You can’t imagine being the idiot that turned down The Hunger Games, but I actually did. I turned it down. I don’t know why. Maybe I didn’t feel like there was enough to do in the role. Luckily [director] Gary Ross came back to me. In the meantime I had read all the books and I was like, “Oh my god. This is great!” I felt kind of bad for passing it up. He said, “You gotta do it! I don’t have a second choice.” And I said, “Well, in that case, let’s do it.” What a fool I would have been if I passed it up.

How does it feel to have fans that range from Cheers to The Hunger Games?

It’s kind of that surreal. I guess you can call [fans] “friendly strangers.” It’s like being a hot girl: A lot of people come up and want to talk to you. You don’t really know them, but it’s cool because I like people. It’s been an incredible journey. I feel very lucky that people want shake my hand.

Jena Malone is Officially our Johanna Mason in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire"

After the long wait, we now have an official confirmation from Lionsgate that Jena Malone is cast as Johanna Mason! Have you noticed that they have the same initials? (Philip Hoffman has also the same initials with Plutarch Heavensbee). Anyway, Josh Hutcherson was able to spill some casting stuff when he was asked by an Access Hollywood reporter. He mentioned that Jena Malone is amazing when asked about the new cast in Catching Fire. You can see that video here. If I'm not mistaken that trigger the premature announcement for the Johanna actress. Honestly, I was expecting that casting news about the important characters like Johanna and Finnick will be announced later than the others.

Here's Lionsgate's official press release:

Santa Monica, CA, July 23, 2012- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES:CATCHING FIRE are pleased to announce that Jena Malone has been cast in the role of Johanna Mason in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire.  Johanna Mason is a female victor from a past Games still in her early twenties, and is one of the youngest, but also one of the most psychologically scarred Quarter Quell participants.

Malone recently starred opposite Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton in the History Channel's Emmy® nominated mini-series Hatfields & McCoys.  The mini-series broke cable records and is the new most-watched entertainment telecast of all time on cable. Her additional credits include Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch, Oren Moverman's The Messenger, and Sean Penn's Into the Wild.  She will soon begin production on Lonely Hunter.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark.   Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts.  Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE will be directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has over 50 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.

Lionsgate will release THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE on November 22, 2013.
Ongoing casting news and information for the film can be found at: www.CatchingFireCasting.com

Watch Josh Hutcherson about his first surf board below. Find out as he talked about his character and his new house. Plus when he was asked about the new cast in Catching Fire he said that "Jena Malone is fantastic." Does that mean Jena Malone will be officially in "Catching Fire?" He was also excited to work with Philip Seymour Hoffman, who will play head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee in the next movie.

Catching Fire Won't be Filmed in Kauai, Hawaii, The Honolulu Star Advertiser Reports

Despite the rumors in the past few weeks that Kauai might be a potential location for filming Catching Fire, the Honolulu Star Advertiser has ended such talks. In their recent publication they said that:

"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" will not be filmed on Kauai as mentioned here last week. Christina Gizoni, a Lionsgate representative, said in an email: "While we have not yet released the filming locations, Kauai will not be one of them." Further comment was not forthcoming.

Note: Until Lionsgate has not released any official press release, let's not consider this as final.

Catching Fire Filming & Locations Update: Cameras Might Start on September 10, North Carolina Might Not be on the Scout's List

If you have been keeping track of the filming locations for "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," you probably heard that the movie might be shot in Atlanta and Kauai, Hawaii. Talks about filming in North Carolina have been vague.

The Hunger Games used North Carolina's Henry Mill Village as a set for District 12 including Katniss' house but now news has it that the place is already not in its former glory. Accordingly, some people have not been so respectful of the place because there were lots of vandalism reported. Recently, I have seen that a fan uploaded her photo outside the Mellark Bakery (the spot where Josh Hutcherson stood) and that "PASTRIES" has not become "ASTRIES." Obviously, someone took out the P! Ashvegas recently reported that Catching Fire will not be filmed in North Carolina. According to them:
Sources we trust tell Ashvegas that the second installment of The Hunger Games trilogy,Catching Fire, will not be filmed in North Carolina. Parts of the first movie were filmed in and around WNC.
Russ Bowen, a news anchor from North Carolina, has tweeted that the owner of Henry Mill Village hasn't heard from Lionsgate despite their conversation in early spring. He added that preproduction has already started in Chatahoochee Avenue in Atlanta.

NOTE: These are all rumors. There's no official announcement from Lionsgate yet.

Japanese Hunger Games Poster and Trailer Plus New Hunger Games DVD Poster at the 2012 San Diego Comic Con

Guys, in case you missed it, there's a Japanese poster and trailer for the Hunger Games. The poster isn't really new in our eyes but the trailer is somewhat different from what we have seen before the movie came out last March. By the way, the Hunger Games will be shown in Japanese theater on September 28, 2012 so there's a huge gap between the world/US premiere of the movie and in Japan. Anyway, here is the poster  and the trailers (there are actually two) cannot be embedded. You could watch the trailers at http://www.hungergames.jp. The site offers more information about the screening of the movie in the country.

Down below, you could also see a new Hunger Games DVD poster that was shared to us by Lionsgate during the 2012 Comic Con in San Diego, CA.

Plus, I included EW's portrait of Hunger Games cast (Jack Quaid, Amandla Stenberg, Alexander Ludwig, Dayo Okeniyi and Willow Shields) at the 2012 San Diego Comic Con. If you know the characters they portray in the film, you already know why they have such poses.

Attention: Lionsgate Seeks New Directors for Mockingjay Part 1 and 2 to be Released November 2014 and 2015, Respectively

The Hunger Games movie series executive producer Nina Jacobson is in search for potential directors for the trilogy's last film adaptions of Mockingjay, which is to be split in two parts. Mockingjay Part 1 is expected to be released by November 21, 2014 while the part 2 will be on the 20th of November 2015. It might be hard on the director's part because there is just about a year interval between the films. If you could remember, that's one of the main reasons why Gary Ross left the project and the producers got Francis Lawrence on board. We are not really sure if the pre-production for Catching Fire has started but sooner or later the filming will start soon (rumor has it that it might start by September or so). According to Total Film via Collider:

With only a year between each film's release, Lawrence would likely still be working on post-production for Catching Fire when pre-production on Mockingjay would be due to start. As a result, producer Nina Jacobson is apparently vetting potential replacements in tandem with author Suzanne Collins.

In one respect, it's good that Lionsgate are planning far enough ahead so as not to get caught out like they were with Ross, but it also seems a shame to prioritise release dates so far above getting the right man for the job. If Lawrence turns out to be an excellent fit, it seems a shame not to be able to consider keeping him on, simply because there are deadlines to be hit.

So far, Lionsgate has announced officially that Philip Seymour Hoffman will play head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee and Amanda Plummer will take on the role of District 3 victor Wiress, aka Nuts for Catching Fire. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, and Willow Shields all reprise their roles.  For more Catching Fire casting updates, go here.

Amanda Plummer is Wiress in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" (Official & Confirmed)

Lionsgate is proud to tell us that 55-year-old actress Amanda Plummer (the daughter of OSCAR winner Christopher Plummer) will play Wiress, one of the victors of District 3 who will compete at the 75th Hunger Games or the so-called Third Quarter Quell, in Catching Fire.

Santa Monica, CA, July 17, 2012- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE are pleased to announce that actress Amanda Plummer has been cast in the role of Wiress in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire.  The character’s eccentricity earns her the nickname “Nuts” from fellow tributes, and though she doesn’t communicate traditionally, her observations and contributions prove invaluable in the Quarter Quell.

Best known to film going audiences from her memorable and award nominated roles in THE FISHER KING and PULP FICTION, Plummer is also a beloved, Tony Award® winning stage actress on and off Broadway.  She can next be seen as the title character in the forthcoming film ABIGAIL HARMS.
The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has over 36 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.

Lionsgate will release THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE on November 22, 2013.
Ongoing casting news and information for the film can be found at: www.CatchingFireCasting.com

Catching Fire Casting News: Melissa Leo Rumored to Play Mags While Tony Shalhoub in Talks to Play Beetee

Variety has reported that Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub has been in the talks to play Beetee, a victor and inventor from District 3. They added that Melissa Leo has also been shortlisted to play Mags in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." They also added that Sam Claflin has been considered to play Finnick, one of the most coveted roles in Catching Fire.

With two blockbusters under his belt, Brit thesp Sam Claflin looks to be lining up one more, as sources tell Variety that the "Snow White and the Huntsman" star is the choice to play Finnick Odair in Lionsgate's sequel "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."

Additionally, sources say three-time Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub is the frontrunner to play Beetee. Melissa Leo had been on the shortlist to play Mags but her reps were informed Tuesday afternoon that she is not getting the part. Regardless of the status of their potential involvement, Claflin and Shalhoub are all on the studio's shortlist for roles in the highly-anticipated sequel.

Lionsgate and all of the actors' respective reps had no comment on the casting.

Sam Claflin
Again, this news is not official; unless, the actors are on the list at Lionsgate's www.catchingfirecasting.com.

Sam Claflin Cast as Finnick? (Not Confirmed/Official Yet))

If you could still remember, Lainey Gossip claims that British actor who plays Prince William in Snow White and the Huntsman, Sam Claflin is on the run to play Finnick Odair in Catching Fire. Now, Zap2it reports that he is already cast as the District 4 victor. Accordingly to them:

Official reps for the film won't comment on the casting, but our reliable sources reveal that producer Nina Jacobson and Lionsgate have signed off on Claflin's offer.

Zap2it has also reported before that Lucas Till, Trevor Donovan, and Alan Ritchson were considered for the role.

Anyway, Lionsgate has no official announcement yet. I really think that the official news on who will play Finnick will be announced the latest as compared to other minor roles in the sequel. Let's just wait then. Anway, what do you think of Sam Claflin as Finnick?

Celebuzz Confirmed that Catching Fire's Victor Village Might Be Filmed in Atlanta

According to Celebuzz, the set for the Victor Village (the place that is provided by the Capitol for the winners of the Hunger Games) might be filmed in Atlanta. Celebuzz has claimed that lots of scouts have been considering the state (which has also been the filming locations for The Walking Dead, Vampire Diaries, and What to Expect When You're Expecting) to shot some major scenes in Catching Fire. It is not yet clear if Lionsgate will still use North Carolina for some Distirct 12 scenes. Still, there has been no official announcements yet from Lionsgate on the exact filming locations as well as for casting major roles in the sequel. So far, Philip Seymour Hoffman has been officially in as head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." Mockingjay will be split in two parts and will be released in November 2014 and November 15, respectively.

Confirmed: Colton Haynes from Teen Wolf Auditioned for Finnick in Catching Fire

Few months ago, a blogger named Brian Tutt has published on his blog about Colton Haynes' talks with Lionsgate people. You can read that post here. Now, our friends at thehob.org has caught up with him at the 2012 San Diego Comic Con and the Teen Wolf actor confirmed that he did audition for the role but Finnick is yet to be cast. Accordingly, Colton has expressed how a big fan he is for the series via his tweets.

New Wave of Hunger Games Actions Figures (Katniss, Peeta, Cato and Rue) in the 2012 Comic Con, to be Released in September 2012

If you could still remember, NECA announced last May 2012 that they will release another batch of Hunger Games action figures. You can read that post here. The new batch of action figures include Peeta and Katniss in their Training Center uniforms as well as Cato and Rue in their arena costume. In the new action figures, NECA included the Katniss' bow and arrow as well as Peeta's camouflage arm. The Cato and Rue action figures don't have weapon on the box set. As opposed to the mentioned August 2012 release date, I guess the series 2 of the action figures will be released in September 2012. The following pictures are owned by thehob.org.
