Another Hunger Games Exclusive at Entertainment Weekly

Is it violent?” says director Gary Ross of his PG-13 film. “Yes. Do we back off from what it is? No, we don’t.”

The March 23 release of The Hunger Games is nearly upon us. While we can’t make the clock turn any faster, we can offer fans of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling dystopian trilogy (and newcomers, too) a deep, behind-the-scenes look into the making of the film, from conception to casting, filming to marketing.

Perhaps no bit of casting news was met with greater surprise than Lenny Kravitz taking on the role of Cinna, hero Katniss Everdeen’s deeply cool and compassionate stylist. Kravitz was working on his album, living out of a trailer in the Bahamas and oblivious to the Hunger Games phenomenon, when Ross first approached him to offer him the part. The director had been moved by the musician’s gentle grace in Precious and was further intrigued by the fact that Kravitz already felt a nurturing bond with star Jennifer Lawrence, who had become close friends with his daughter Zoe during the filming of X-Men: First Class. “I love that girl,” says Kravitz. “The minute I met her she became a part of the family.”

It took one sleepless night of reading a downloaded version of The Hunger Games in his trailer for Kravitz to commit. But Woody Harrelson, who initially turned down the role of Katniss and Peeta’s sodden wreck of a mentor Haymitch, was a harder sell. “Listen, I’m nuts,” he explains. “It was just a stupid thing where I hadn’t read the books yet. I didn’t see that there was enough for me to do in the script. But then Gary called me back and said ‘You got to do this, I don’t have a second choice for the role.’ And of course flattery always gets the best of me so I read the books and really saw the depths of this guy. Holy s—, I would have been bummed to miss this.”

For more on The Hunger Games, including what you won’t see in the movie and how Jennifer Lawrence is enjoying her last few days of anonymity, pick up the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, on stands Friday, March 2.

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The countdown has begun to the most anticipated film opening since the Twilight series: The Hunger Games, which hits theaters nationwide on March 23. In anticipation, PEOPLE magazine celebrates with a special collector’s issue, All About The Hunger Games, that introduces Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, Liam Hemsworth as Gale, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, and the rest of the cast. Featuring behind-the-scenes scoop on how the spectacular costumes were created and how the stars trained for their roles, this special newsstand-only collector’s issue of PEOPLE is loaded with tons of fabulous photos from the movie, exclusive interviews, insider secrets, and all the style information needed to dress like a tribute. The following links to a $1 off coupon (participating retailers include Walmart, Target, BarnesandNoble.com and Amazon.com):

Peeta Mellark Josh Hutcherson reveals why he’s perfect to play courageous baker’s son Peeta, his most intense day of shooting, and what he loves about leading lady Jennifer Lawrence. Jennifer “always says what she thinks,” Hutcherson tells PEOPLE. “A lot of people are too worried they’re going to offend someone, so I found that really admirable.” He also reveals, “I got a minor concussion during filming when Jennifer accidentally kicked me in the head. We were goofing off, shadowboxing, and suddenly her boot hit me in the temple.”
Gale HawthorneLiam Hemsworth talks about why he was drawn to the role of Gale – and whether he’s ready for Hunger Games mania. He tells PEOPLE that during the filming of the reaping, “It’s pretty horrific to watch little kids go through that process. It was also really hot. We were in the sun all day, and some of the extras actually collapsed.”
Effie TrinketElizabeth Banks delivers the scoop on how she transformed into the Capitol’s devilish diva. “Katharine Hepburn was an inspiration for the voice – the cadence, the wit, the preponderance of etiquette,” she tells PEOPLE.

Get Katniss’s Look – How to achieve the rustic vibe (from both District 12 and the Games) and the outfit from her Games interview. “I only cared about the boots. I had to wear them every day, do all my stunts in them,” Jennifer Lawrence tells PEOPLE. “They were the most important part of everything, and they were perfection.”

Up Close with Rue – Hanging out with 13-year-old Amandla Stenberg, the actress who plays a key role in the Games. She tells PEOPLE, “We were filming in a meadow, and someone stepped on a hornets’ nest near me. Jennifer came to the rescue. She picked me up and pulled me out of the swarm.”
Behind the Scenes – On-set secrets from the movie’s director, production designer, and makeup artist. “We weren’t trying to recreate a 1920s Depression-era environment, but we used it as our foundation,” production designer Philip Messina tells PEOPLE. “We wanted to create a place that felt like people did 14 hours of physical labor a day and weren’t getting enough to eat. Where the citizens are always one step away from giving up.”

Friends and Foes – A-list costars Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, and Donald Sutherland talk about taking on their pivotal roles in the movie.

PEOPLE’s Special Collector’s Issue, All About The Hunger Games, in on newsstands March 2 – March 30.

Hunger Games Movie's Jennifer Lawrence is a Kristen Stewart Fan

Did you know that Jennifer Lawrence used to audition of the role of Bella of the Twilight Saga? Read this article from Hollywood Life.

The hot new action star reveals she’s also a big fan of the ‘Twilight’ saga’s leading lady!

Jennifer Lawrence may never want to achieve Kristen Stewart‘s level of fame, but in a new interview, The Hunger Games star admits she’s a big fan of the Twilight saga’s leading lady. “I really like Kristen Stewart in the Twilight movies,” she tells Celebritext. “I can’t really imagine anybody else doing it; I think she’s a great Bella.”

And did you know that Jennifer, 21, was originally up against K-Stew, 21, for the part of Bella? It’s true, but Jennifer says there’s no hard feelings there at all.

“I think that everything happens for the reason,” she says. “I’ve never really been disappointed about not getting anything. I mean, I was just with every actor in New York or LA auditioning for whatever’s out thee. But I felt that whatever it meant to be, will happen. I actually had no idea what they were.”

In the end, Jennifer says she was actually really impressed with K-Stew’s performance in the epic saga.
“When the movies came out, I went, ‘Wow!’” she says.

Well, I guess you are right Jen since the reason why you didn't get that Twilight role because you are destined to be our Katniss Everdeen.

Hunger Games Lead Jennifer Lawrence in Glamour UK Magazine - Daily Mail has an Exclusive Peek

Read this article from UK's Daily Mail on Glamour's Jennifer Lawrence exclusive.

Her star is on the rise, so it's no wonder that Jennifer Lawrence feels like she's about to move to another planet.
The 21-year-old actress is about to skyrocket to fame as Katniss Everdeen, The Hunger Games' leading lady.

She certainly looks the part of a star as Glamour magazine's April cover girl.

In turn, she is photographed looking equally sweet and soft, appearing in a lavender chiffon gown with a crown of white roses on her head.

She appears in one photo looking tough and holding a bow, which is her onscreen character's weapon of choice.

Lawrence, who was nominated for an Oscar in 2010 for Winter's Bone, realises that this part is the one which will bring her to a Kristen Stewart level of fame.

She tells the magazine: 'I feel like I am in the eye of the hurricane right now. It's daunting.

'I feel like I got a ticket to another planet and I'm moving there and there's no turning back, and I don't know if I'm going to like that other planet or have friends there. It's just scary.'

She also confides that she had an on-set snafu involving Josh Hutcherson, who plays one of her two onscreen love interests, Peeta Mellark.

She says that she accidentally gave him 'a concussion' with a 'death kick.'

Lawrence, who most recently appeared in the sleeper hit Like Crazy, also revealed that she keeps spears in her car (in case of an emergency) and disclosed information on her diet.

She says: 'I don't diet. I do exercise, but I don't diet. You can't work when you're hungry, you know?'

The leggy beauty is a great fit to play Games' leading lady, a character who must fight for her life in an annual 'game' set in a future dystopian society.
She glitters in a beaded gold top and white trousers; her hair appears to be making a halo behind her head.

If advance numbers are any indication, she is right to assume her life is going to change: advance ticket sales for the film's release have outsold previous record holder The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Online movie ticket retailer Fandango claims they have already sold hundreds of tickets for the film's debut midnight screening on March 22.

The film will go into wide release on March 23.

Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Hemsworth and Lenny Kravitz will co-star alongside Lawrence.

Update:

Here is MTV's cut to the April 2012 issue of Glamour Magazine with Jennifer Lawrence as the cover.

Glamour magazine's long-awaited issue honoring the 25 hottest celebrities of 2012 is finally here, and the No. 1 cover girl should be no surprise: It's the arrow-slinging star of "The Hunger Games," Jennifer Lawrence! (Still sporting her brunette dye job and one seriously sparkly top. Yow.) And while some of our other lady favorites made this list of the top Hollywood heavyweights—including the adorable Emma Stone and the ubiquitous Rooney Mara—it's Jennifer's interview that caught our eye today. Especially the part where (get ready to gasp really loud) she almost didn't take the role that we all can't wait to see her in.

"I gave myself three days," she said of being offered the role of Katniss. "I knew from reading the books that I loved 'The Hunger Games.' I just didn’t know if it was worth changing my life for. I’m at a peaceful place right now. The people who used to ignore me at parties, now they’re nice to me and kissing my ass. But nobody’s staked outside my house. I wanted to make sure that when I said yes, I wouldn’t regret it. And I don’t regret it. I would have said no because I was scared, and then I would have been that bitter actress telling my grandkids, ‘I’m the one that turned it down.'"

Fortunately, Jennifer decided that a little bit of ubercelebrity didn't scare her—and now she'll be telling her grandkids, "I'm the one slinging arrows and covered in blood!", which is much better. And just in case you didn't love the actress for being so super-accessible and down-to-earth, even on the cusp of this career-changing movie, you're going to change your mind as soon as you hear the one way in which she has let fame go to her head. Because where most girls might go crazy for a house in Beverly Hills, a flashy car or a closet full of expensive couture, Jennifer's version of out-of-control celebrity is seriously unique:

"Just recently I started letting myself eat things from the minibar," she admitted. "When we were kids, we would never open the minibar. A $6 Snickers bar? But the other day I was in a hotel and I was staring at a Snickers bar, and I finally just ate it. Then it was like something in me snapped. I opened all these drinks. I thought: I can do it now. Now I’m all grown-up. I can eat things from the minibar."
And there you have it: Jennifer Lawrence. Kicking ass. Taking names. Eating things from the minibar.
Are you glad to see Jennifer getting such Glamor-ous recognition?

Leven Rambin Tells E! Why There Aren't Hookups and Gossips at the Hunger Games Set

Leven Rambin as Glimmer
Read this article from E! News on why the Hunger Games set is gossip free.

We know you hate it when we compare The Hunger Games with fellow franchise juggernaut Twilight.

Well, get ready to rage: ‘Cause after Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and the gang gave us so much juicy goss on their set, we assume any flick made up of young, hot up-and-comers will do the same.

Well H.G. disappointed in that department: No hookups. No temper tantrums. No Vices. And a star from the film tells us why:

"Well, everyone was in a relationship going into the movie, pretty much," Leven Rambin (who plays the gorge Tribute Glimmer in the film) laughed when we asked about the lack of hearsay at last week's The Hollywood Reporter's Nominee's Night.

She's, of course, referring to Jennifer Lawrence and her X-Men relaysh with Nicholas Hoult (the twosome have packed in some serious PDA lately) and hunky Liam Hemsworth's long-term romance with Miley Cyrus.

Josh Hutcherson was also seen out and about with Vanessa Hudgens around the time the movie began filming (though the two have since split). Meaning there wasn't too much room for on-set nookie.

Leven continued, "Also, there were a lot of moms around to keep us all in line, because a lot of the kids were younger. It was kind of low-key, just a professional vibe. Everyone was really professional. There wasn't anything too gossipy to report."

And there's the key ingredient: Moms!

There wasn't very much parental supervision on the Twilight films—in fact, the only moms who kept eyes on those sexy stars were the Twi-Moms who want to bed R.Pattz themselves! Sheesh.

But, Leven is sure even with the lack of buzz concerning the cast's personal lives, the movie will still be a success:

"I'm confident in the material we did and the performances we all gave," she told us. "Critically, I think people will love it, outside of being a fan of the book. And I think fans of the book will really gravitate towards it."

We agree. Though, we will say we don't mind seeing J.Law smoochin' in the paparazzi pics. Hey, it's just an added bonus, right?!
